April Lockhart

April Lockhart, born in 1995 on the 4th of July, started taking guitar and piano lessons at age seven. The passion for songwriting was awakened. In April, when she was 12 years old She composed her debut single Different. The year she turned 14 was when she devoted a great deal of her time writing song ideas and practicing her music. Soon after, April started to travel with her dad and write either in NY or LA. April featured other topics in her track, Take my Hand. These topics were meant for the friends of hers who struggled issues like peer pressure, issues or even teenage suicide thoughts. Lockhart has her own fan base and is an online lifestyle blogger for the popular Ilia clean beauty brand. Her birth was without a left hand, and it's an aspect of her identity, but this isn't the whole truth. The profile of Lockhart on Instagram does not conceal her handicap, but it doesn't concentrate solely on it. It's a message. It is important to remember that everyone has many faces, our identities are diverse and we are much more than our bodies. Lockhart, via video message sent from her Nashville home, says I don't want that to be a part of me. I'm much greater than the physical person I am. It doesn't impact my daily living. I do the normal things and have adjusted to the limitations of my disability. It's a big aspect of my existence, therefore it's important to talk about it. The journey of self-acceptance that Lockhart has taken is one that can last a lifetime, but she is an inspiration with regard to this. Lockhart admits to having been through times when she felt uncomfortable in wearing certain clothing styles which exposed her arms. She now wears any outfit she wishes and shares pictures on Facebook with pride. Self-love, she says is a process. It's not clear if you'll ever reach the point of no return. It's the same for everybody regardless of the level of insecurity. It is essential to surround yourself with individuals who truly know the person you are.
